Join The Adventure…
Whether you are 6, 66 or even older, there’s a place in scouting for you.
Offering fun. challenge and adventure every day to over 500,000 young people across the United Kingdom, Scouting is developing our communities of tomorrow.
Supported by our adult volunteers our young people are encouraged to achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and international communities.
In Stockport we believe that every young person can grow to make a positive contribution to society both today and in their later life. Working across the borough our teams work with and alongside our younger members to help them become individuals who:
- are self-reliant
- are caring
- are responsible
- show commitment
- work to the best of their own ability
Scouting works well when young people enjoy learning by working in partnership with adults.
They do this by:
- Taking part in a variety of activities and new experiences
- Exploring the outdoors
- Participating in teams
- Taking responsibility
Our method for giving young people the opportunity to learn by doing is called the Programme. The Programme is a continuous progression of training, activities and awards that covers everything that young people do in Scouting from the age of 6 to 25.
In Scouting, our adults have a responsibility to make sure that the Programme is fun, challenging and exciting. We must also make sure that it is safe. The Scout Association’s policies, rules, code of behaviour, advice on Child Protection and safety policy are there to ensure our young people stay safe while they enjoy themselves and learn.
In Stockport we believe we provide an unrivalled programme both at Group and District level to ensure our young people get to experience the very best that scouting has to offer. These activities are key to helping them grow personally and as a member of a “team” – Key skills that will serve them well in adult life.
Who can be a Scout?
Quite simply – anyone who wishes to be part of the adventure!
Our programme is aimed at all young people aged 6 to 25 regardless of gender, faith or background.
The programme is supported by adults working in partnership with the young people. Adult roles are primarily divided into two arenas. Those who work with young people and those who provide administrative/skills support. Each is key to providing a successful programme and any adult, no matter how much or little time they are able to offer, what skill they have, they will be assured of a warm welcome.
There are five primary sections in Scouting, each working towards a programme that delivers a top award, awards that, in older sections, can make a positive impact in an individual’s future career….
